What is objectivity?
Can objective moral claims be made?

"There is a tree!" - I say.
"I agree, there is!" - you respond.

We agree that it is objectively true and empirically verifiable (you can call your friend and tell them there is a tree, and then they can come and check it out for themselves). Can the same be done for morality?

Lets assume there is a button. If you press this button, there will be no rape committed today (without any consequences, just no rape). Would you press this button?

Could people who do not press this button be categorized as evil? Can't we say they are objectively wrong?

"There are sadists, psychopaths who would not press this button! Ha! I win!" - you say.

There are some people who would not see the tree. The blind, or the psychotic who are hallucinating and so on. We would say they are lacking something. Can't we say the same for the ones who would not press the button?

Moral claims are just expressions of emotions, an emotivist would say. But does it mean objectivity cannot be reached? What is the difference between seeing a tree and strongly feeling something is right or wrong? Aren't both of these things just perceived by us? Don't they just appear in our consciousness? Are sight and other senses more real than feelings? How are senses different than feelings, thoughts, dreams, fantasies? Does objectivity exist at all? Or is everything objective?

Prague. The city of expats. People from far away. Having left their homes, families. They are desperately lonely. How could they not be? There is no one here for them.

There is something in us that viscerally requires others. Different types of love need to be satisfied: parental, romantic, social. Sure they are more.

Many people, especially intellectually inclined, tell themselves a lie, a false justification, for their misery. They will say it is because of the intellectual unfulfillment that they struggle. However, after many observed cases, the same strong correlation becomes conspicuous: the absence of love, the type of love, the quality of love - that is what mostly determines the levels of well-being for majority of people.

The ability to admit that one is lonely and desperately needs others correlates with a more mature and stronger ego.

There are many treasures to discover in the very painful solitude. Namely, the appreciation of others, the appreciation of love, the appreciation of moments, and the realization of mandatory self-improvement. You see time and time again a person after encountering a prolonged period of despair caused by unrequited love commences on new journeys: exercise, new hobbies, intellectual endeavors.

Therefore, one thing is clear: solitude albeit painful, can cause great self-actualization. If the path of self-actualization is not undertaken, self-destruction is inevitable.

How to inspire people to undertake the path of self-improvement? The answer to this has been known by psychologists for quite a while now. One must be made to do something. Anything. Some sort of a step of improvement needs to be taken, regardless of its size. It might start just by commitment of never leaving dirty dishes overnight. The compounding effect of perpetual self-improvement can bring previously unimagined fruits. Unfortunately, it is difficult to comprehend it, especially when one is in great anguish.

Hope is in the change. Love is in the self-actualization. Love without it is impossible. Maslow's pyramid is in the wrong order.

“Ideas emerge in the same way as organisms do i.e. in evolutionary way e.g. democracy is just a complex abstraction of tit-for-tat strategy that is observable even in bacteria. If that is the case, then what drives the ideas? Just look at bacteria and you will get your answer.”

The main objective of drives such as sex, sugar, love and the like is instant gratification. These are the parts of The ID.

Super-ego consists of the ideals of the society an individual was raised in. The ideals manifest in the form of religions, role models, popular sayings and stories. It is a higher level of abstraction. Beneath there is software which runs on the utilitarian tit-for-that strategy which continuously makes power in a society more and more decentralized.

The Ego is the mediator between those two. Both parts need to be equally satisfied. Not taking care of one leads to imbalance that manifests itself through feelings such as anxiety and general sense of despair. The Ego is hurt when it is reminded it is unable to satisfy its own two children, or at least one of them. The voice of reason is part of the Ego. The Devil as well.

The strategy for life albeit difficult to implement effectively is obvious. Undertake the journey of physical, intellectual and moral improvement which satisfies the Super-ego. The child cannot run the house, but if it is unhappy, the whole house will be burning. Therefore, the life without sex, love and sugar will never be full.
